Frequently asked questions

Are you a CPA firm?

No. We're a tax preparation and bookkeeping firm. When clients need audits, reviewed financial statements, or other services that require a CPA license, we refer them to independent licensed CPA firms we work with.

How do I send you my tax documents?

Only through our secure client portal. Please don't email tax documents or put sensitive information in our contact form. Once you're a client, we'll send you a portal invitation.

Do you work with clients remotely?

Yes, all of it. We serve clients in all 50 states entirely online, through our secure portal, e-signature, and phone or video calls. You never have to come in.

Do I need QuickBooks Online for bookkeeping?

No. If you'd like to see your own numbers or send invoices, we'll work in your QuickBooks Online account, with the subscription in your name. If you'd rather not set up software, we'll keep your books in Drake Accounting and send you monthly reports.

My RSUs or stock options were taxed. Why does my 1099-B look wrong?

Brokerages often report a cost basis of zero for vested company stock, even though that income is already on your W-2. If it isn't corrected, you can pay tax twice. We reconcile your W-2 and brokerage statements so every share is reported correctly.

Do you handle IOLTA and attorney trust account reconciliations?

Yes. We perform monthly three-way reconciliations, matching the bank statement, the trust account journal, and every client ledger, and provide a documented report each month. We work as a firm's outsourced accounting team or support its in-house bookkeeper.

How much does tax preparation cost?

It depends on the forms and schedules your return needs. We'll give you a quote after a short intro call, before any work begins. See our pricing page for typical starting points.

What if I'm behind on filing?

We prepare prior-year and amended returns, and we can catch up your bookkeeping. Book a call and we'll put together a plan.

I got a letter from the IRS. What should I do?

Don't ignore it. Most notices have a deadline. Book a call, then upload the notice through the secure portal and we'll help you understand it and respond.

How do I pay my invoice?

Use the Pay an invoice link on our client portal page, or the payment link in your invoice email.
