Quarterly Tax Filings & Estimated Payments

We calculate your quarterly estimated taxes and prepare your quarterly IRS and state filings, so every deadline is met and there's no surprise bill in April.

What's included

  • Quarterly estimated tax calculations for individuals (Form 1040-ES) and corporations
  • Payment reminders with exact amounts and due dates, plus help setting up IRS Direct Pay or EFTPS
  • Mid-year check-ins to adjust estimates when income changes
  • Quarterly federal payroll tax returns (Form 941) and annual unemployment tax return (Form 940)
  • State quarterly withholding and unemployment returns
  • Safe harbor planning to help avoid underpayment penalties

Who needs to pay quarterly?

If you earn income that doesn't have tax withheld, such as self-employment income, business profits, rental income, large stock sales, or consulting fees, the IRS expects you to pay tax during the year in four installments. Missing or underpaying them can mean penalties, even if you pay everything in full by April.

Federal estimated payments are generally due April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15. See our tax deadline calendar.

How it works

We look at last year's return and this year's income, calculate what you owe each quarter, and send you a reminder with the exact amount and how to pay before every deadline. Payments go straight from your bank account to the IRS and your state, so your money never passes through us. If your income changes during the year, we update the numbers.

Employers: quarterly payroll returns

If you have employees, the IRS requires a payroll tax return (Form 941) every quarter, plus state withholding and unemployment filings. We prepare and file them on time and reconcile them to your payroll records and W-2s at year end.
